Written Question: Vaccine doses

Question for written answer E-001654/2021
to the Commission
Nicolás González Casares (S&D)
Subject: Vaccine doses
The Italian authorities have reported finding some 29 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine in storage in Italy. It appears that some of it was subcontracted by AstraZeneca in the Netherlands for an unspecified recipient. The Dutch vaccine plant in question has not yet been approved to supply the EU market.
In view of this:
- Can the Commission say when authorisation to supply the EU with vaccines was requested for the plant in question?
- If authorisation was requested, what further clarification has since been sought that might explain why the factory has not yet been approved as at 24 March?
- Has AstraZeneca failed to supply the necessary documentation on time?
