Question for written answer E-001793/2021
to the Commission
Rule 138
Sandro Gozi (Renew)

Subject: Making contract law more European

Significant disparities between countries still exist in the system of contract law in the EU, even in areas that are supposed to be harmonised. This is the case in particular with the Commercial Agents Directive, which leaves so much room for manoeuvre to Member States that it ultimately creates legal uncertainty. Purchase and distribution contracts also have different implications depending on the legal regime applicable. It is therefore difficult to truly secure commercial transactions in the EU.

Does the Commission intend to take up this issue and relaunch work on a common framework for commercial contracts at European level?
