Subject: Israeli Government’s campaign of violence against the Palestinian population in Jerusalem
The Israeli Government has been waging a campaign of violence against Jerusalem’s Palestinian population, recently evicting them from their homes in Sheikh Jarrah and barring them from the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Such acts should be condemned in the strongest terms.
These events are examples of the escalating aggression by the Israeli Government and Zionist forces as they seek to annex East Jerusalem, deny Palestinians their legitimate right to a sovereign state (delimited by the 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as its capital), and contest the right of Palestinian refugees to return – all in defiance of internationally backed UN resolutions.
The Zionist violence in Palestine and across the Middle East would not be possible without the complicity and support of the United States. The same can be said of the complicity of the EU, which has been lax in its response to Israel’s systemic aggression and repeated violations of international law.
1. What is the position with respect to these recent events and what action will be taken to hold the Israeli Government accountable for its acts of repression and violence against the Palestinian population?
2. Will the clauses of the Association Agreement which provide for its suspension in the event of human rights violations continue to be disregarded?
