Question for written answer E-002601/2021
to the Vice-President of the Commission / High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy
Nikolaj Villumsen (The Left)
Subject: Israeli aggression in East Jerusalem and Gaza
A recent report from Human Rights Watch concluded that the State of Israel’s discrimination against the people of the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT) is in breach of the Apartheid Convention and the Rome Statute.
The most recent developments in Sheikh Jarrah in East Jerusalem are a very worrying step in the same direction and should be seen as a violation of several human rights, such as the right to property and the right to housing.
Furthermore, the Israeli bombing in Gaza has cost the lives of at least 35 Palestinians, including 10 children.
1. Does the Vice-President / High Representative plan on condemning the State of Israel for its unlawful evictions of the Palestinian population in Sheikh Jarrah?
2. Does he intend to acknowledge that the State of Israel is acting like an Apartheid State, as concluded in the Human Rights Watch report?
3. Will he take any further measures regarding the actions carried out by Israel in the OPT?
