Rule 138

The EU has stepped up its communications on the recovery plan for Europe. In view of the agreement between Member States on the REACT-EU plan, the Commissioner for Cohesion and Reform stated:

‘This new initiative is a further step in supporting Member States’ recovery, providing additional funding for bridging the gap between the first emergency crisis response and the long-term recovery of the economy supported by the 2021-2027 programming period. We are working hard to ensure a fair and cohesive recovery’(1).

Recently, Charles Michel, President of the European Council, stated: ‘The Committee of the Regions is not Europe’s press agency, but the intermediary’(2), insisting that regions be consulted when expenditure strategies for recovery plan funds are being devised.

  1. Could the Commission give details of how much funding has been earmarked for the recovery plan in French regional authorities?
  2. Has the Commission introduced a specific policy to adapt the implementation of the recovery plan to take account of cross-border regions?
  3. Has it established monitoring indicators to prevent the spread of any fake news about the sums allocated under the plan?
