Subject: EMSA’s drone data centre
The European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) has a data centre that processes information gathered using drones (‘remotely piloted aircraft systems’, RPAS) for surveillance. The aim is to make it possible also to include in the overall picture of the maritime situation data based on information from other aircraft. EMSA offers its drone services to Frontex and the European Fisheries Control Agency as well. The drones are used for maritime surveillance, pollution-detection monitoring, measuring emissions from shipping and coastguard operations.
- What upgrades is EMSA planning for its RPAS data centre, and who are the manufacturers of the new systems?
- Who are the members (including observers) of EMSA’s RPAS user group?
- How does EMSA deal with the integration and/or use of ocean drones (‘maritime autonomous surface ships’, MASSs)?
