Subject: Elderly population within response to COVID-19

The elderly are one of the population sections that are most at risk with regard to COVID-19, and the high infection rates in this group are therefore alarming.

These high infection rates are largely attributable to situations specific to elderly people: either there are large numbers of them living under one roof, for instance in nursing homes, or they are dependent on regular care.

The EU’s response to the pandemic will undoubtedly take the needs of elderly people into account. To ensure that it is as realistic and as effective as possible, that response must be based on up-to-date data that reflect those specific needs.

In the light of the above:

Does the Commission have up-to-date data on the number of elderly people who are living in nursing homes and/or require care?
