to the Vice-President of the Commission / High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy
Francisco José Millán Mon (PPE)
Subject: Cultural diplomacy and European cultural routes (including the Caminos de Santiago)
In paragraph 80 of its resolution entitled ‘Towards an EU strategy for international cultural relations(1)’, the European Parliament ‘calls on the Commission and the EEAS to strengthen cooperation with the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe’.
Paragraph 29 of the Council Conclusions on EU priorities for cooperation with the Council of Europe 2020-2022 states that ‘the Council of Europe Framework Convention on the Value of Cultural Heritage for Society (the Faro Convention), the European Heritage Days and the Enlarged Partial Agreement of the Council of Europe on Cultural Routes are examples of avenues for collaboration between the EU and the Council of Europe’.
1. In the context of EU cultural diplomacy, how is the High Representative cooperating in measures taken under the Council of Europe’s Enlarged Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes?
2. Is he seeking to raise international awareness of the European Cultural Routes, in particular the Santiago routes during this Holy Year of Compostela or Jacobean Year 2021-2022?
