to the Commission
Rule 138
Sandro Gozi (Renew)

Subject: Cross-border payments and debt recovery

Small and medium-sized enterprises face difficulties when it comes to cross-border debt recovery, in particular in the implementation of European judicial procedures such as orders for payment. The main issue is the lack of knowledge of how these legal instruments work and how to enforce the law. The Commission has recently announced its intention to take up the issue of time limits for payment and to propose a tightening up of legislation, and above all, a strong incentive to settle disputes through out-of-court mediation schemes at the European level.

Does the Commission intend to include in the scope of these new arbitration schemes the issue of cross-border debt recovery, which is closely linked to the issue of time limits for payment and which also has a major economic impact on small businesses?
