On the occasion of Eid-al-Fitr, the EU Ambassador to Afghanistan, Andreas Von Brandt, wishes to convey the following message.

As we are concluding the holy month of Ramadan, I share your hopes and prayers for a prosperous Afghanistan where every woman and man can live in peace.

Exiting this month of reflection, everyone understands that unity is the key for the future. Pursuing ones’ own petty goals, sowing division or fracturing the country would put Afghanistan on the dangerous path.

Also the Taliban must understand that continued fighting will terribly hurt your country and its already suffering people.

The European Union is a longstanding partner and friend of Afghanistan. We continue our support and solidarity in uncertain times. United with all EU member states around the same goal of peace, I recall the foundations of the European Union as the world’s largest and most successful peace and integration project.

May this serve as an inspiration for a unified Afghanistan.

Eid Mubarak!
