Summary

This proposal will overhaul the legislation on European labour market statistics on businesses. These statistics cover the whole set of official statistics on earnings, labour costs, the gender pay gap and job vacancies in the EU that the European Statistical System publishes regularly.

The aim of this initiative is to:

make statistics more up-to-date and more comparable across countriesimprove coverage of the economyensure the collection of data on the annual unadjusted gender pay gap.

In March 2021, the seasonally adjusted industrial production rose by 0.1% in the euro area and by 0.6% in the EU, compared with February 2021, according to estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In February 2021, industrial production fell by 1.2% in the euro area and by 1.0% in the EU.

In March 2021 compared with March 2020, industrial production increased by 10.9% in the euro area and by 11.0% in the EU.

Euro area annual inflation up to 1.6%

Euro area annual inflation is expected to be 1.6% in April 2021, up from 1.3% in March according to a flash estimate from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.

Looking at the main components of euro area inflation, energy is expected to have the highest annual rate in April (10.3%, compared with 4.3% in March), followed by services (0.9%, compared with 1.3% in March), food, alcohol & tobacco (0.7%, compared with 1.1% in March) and non-energy industrial goods (0.5%, compared with 0.3% in March).…

In March 2021, the euro area seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate was 8.1%, down from 8.2% in February 2021 and up from 7.1% in March 2020.
