Digital fairness – fitness check on EU consumer law

The Commission announced in the New Consumer Agenda that it will analyse whether additional action is needed to ensure an equal level of fairness online and offline.

This fitness check (evaluation) will look at the following pieces of EU consumer protection legislation to determine whether they ensure a high level of protection in the digital environment:

  • the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive 2005/29/EC
  • the Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU
  • the Unfair Contract Terms Directive 93/13/EEC
