Good morning and thanks to the organising committee – New Economics Foundation and Finance Watch – for the invitation to speak today.

It is a privilege and a key part of my job as President of Eurogroup to attend and speak at these events and I hope your deliberations go well.

Ideally, I would have liked to have participated “live” but this period is exceptionally busy as a result of both domestic and European work. This includes preparations for the upcoming Irish Budget and of course next week’s Eurogroup meeting.

Today I visited Georgia to attend the Batumi International Conference and a meeting with leaders of the EU’s Associated partners – Georgia, Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova.

On this occasion, I also had the opportunity to meet President Zourabichvili, Prime Minister Garibashvili and leaders of Georgia’s parliamentary opposition parties to discuss the latest developments in Georgia and the implementation of the 19 April Agreement.

Ladies and gentlemen,

Over the past weeks, vaccination is really starting to pick up the pace across the EU. The numbers speak for themselves. Last week we saw more than 34 million doses delivered – a record in deliveries until now. By now we have passed the milestone of 200 million deliveries in the EU.

At present, over 30% of the EU adult population has received a first dose and for the second dose we have reached 12%. In every Member State, large and small, vaccination centres are mobilised, citizens are being vaccinated, and the …

I am very honoured that you invited me to this very important conference where everyone who works on countering disinformation and foreign interference should be.
