In its resolution on the involvement of organised civil society in the implementation and monitoring of the National Recovery and Resilience Plans (NRRPs) the European Economic and Social Committee calls for clear rules to effectively involve social partners and civil society organisations in the Member states’ strategies to bring the economy back on track.

The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) throws its support behind the Commission’s “REPowerEU” initiative, stressing that energy security must be accompanied by urgent measures to protect vulnerable users, accelerate decarbonisation and diversify energy sources. Steps should also be taken to reduce demand for Russian gas which has brought about a significant increase in energy prices.

20 Apr: EESC opens its doors to Ukrainian Civil Society

To turn solidarity with Ukraine into concrete action, the EESC joins the European Parliament initiative “civil society hub” for Ukraine, allowing the NGO Promote Ukraine to use part of its premises at rue de Trèves 74, along with logistical equipment.

The official handover ceremony, was held at the EESC Jacques Delors building on 20 April 2022. The EESC President Christa Schweng welcomed the Ukrainian Civil society representatives, offering them a symbolic “free access” badge in the colours of the Ukrainian flag.

Eight concrete proposals were handed to the European Commission’s Vice-President for Values and Transparency Věra Jourová by secondary school students from all over Europe. The students were taking part in the virtual youth event Your Europe, Your Say! (YEYS2022) under the title: The truth about lies. Youth challenging disinformation.
