The human rights situation in Malaysia saw little change from 2020. The final months of 2021 marked some positive developments such as the strengthening of the rule of law when courts ruled in favour of civil rights movements and newly established political parties.

A dynamic social media scene and surge in citizen empowerment appear to reflect an increased desire in parts of Malaysian society for strengthening democracy. 20 May: EU Delegation holds reception on the occasion of the Europe Day

The European Union Delegation to Turkmenistan conducted a reception on the occasion of the Europe Day. The event is the first official celebration of the Europe Day since the opening of the Delegation in Turkmenistan in 2019.

The reception brought together close to 300 representatives of the national partners, private sector, civil society, media and social media influencers, EU-funded project staff, representatives of the diplomatic corps and international organizations, winners of the EU Delegation social media contests and most active volunteers.

20 May: European Virtual Museum Released around International Museum Day

In May 2022, on the International Museum Day, a video series of European virtual museums has been launched on Chinese social media, reaching millions of Chinese users.

This is the second edition of the “European Virtual Museum”, following the first season in 2021. 14 Member States of the European Union participated in the campaign, providing more than 40 videos of museums of art, humanities, science, and nature. Some of the videos feature artificial intelligence (AI) effects, attempting to provide very realistic museum visits.

20 May: TVET Sector Support Programme hands over Learning-Aids to Punjab TEVTA

Lahore, 19 May, 2022: The donor-funded Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Sector Support Programme (SSP) today handed-over seven digital learning aids/ simulators to the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Mughalpura an institute of the Punjab Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA). The learning aids were produced by the graduates trained under the workplace-based training model in Sindh under TVET SSP. The Centre of Excellence in Mughalpura, where the ceremony was held, has also been upgraded with the support of TVET SSP.

20 May: Indonesia is connected to the EU Digital COVID Certificate system

Good news for Indonesian and European travellers: EU and Indonesia have agreed the mutual recognition of their COVID vaccine certificates.

This means that, when entering the EU or travelling between EU Member States, holders of the Indonesian vaccine certificate can use it under the same conditions as people holding the EU Digital COVID Certificate (EUDCC).

People holding the EU Digital COVID Certificate can now use it to prove their vaccine status for entering Indonesia.

In other words, Indonesia and EU now treat each other’s certificates as equivalent. This is an important step in our joint goal to facilitate …

We are seriously concerned following the recent armed confrontations and incitement to violence in Tripoli. We call for calm and underline that violence would only threaten Libya’s unity, stability and prosperity.
