(7.6.2021)

In November 2020, the Commission received a complaint from a local citizen initiative about the construction of a 5 000 square meter-sized parking lot within the boundaries of the Sonian Forest Natura 2000 sites.

The Commission explained in its replies why, along the lines of the Commission’s policy in this respect[1], it does not intervene in cases of possible individual bad application of EU law. The complainant was invited to bring the matter to the attention of the responsible national legal instances, the courts included, and was also informed of what might be relevant national case law. After some further clarifications on the Commission’s complaints policy, the complaint file was closed without follow up in February 2021.
