30 Jun: Europol: Council agrees negotiating mandate on new rules to strengthen the role of the agency

(Source: Council of the EU)

EU ambassadors today agreed a negotiating mandate on a draft regulation amending the Europol regulation as regards its cooperation with private parties, its processing of personal data in support of criminal investigations and its role on research and innovation.

Criminals constantly adapt the way they function, and if we want to fight them successfully so must we. In a context of increasingly cross-border and digital crime, Europol has a growing role to play in supporting member states and driving innovation in law enforcement. These draft new rules will provide it with the necessary tools to …

“Check against delivery”

Good afternoon and welcome to what will hopefully be the last fully online press conference in this building.  Today marks six months since the Protocol on Ireland and Northern Ireland – an integral part of the Withdrawal Agreement – became operational. I have repeatedly stated that there are still quite a few gaps in the UK’s implementation of the Protocol. At the same time, we are aware of a number of challenges in implementation – and therefore today, the Commission has tabled a package of measures to address the most pressing issues. These solutions …

“Check against delivery”

Ladies and gentlemen,

When we were standing here before you with Didier last November, we made a promise to advance the Consumer Agenda. Our objective was to take a step forward to empower consumers with all the rights they need to have in an ever rapidly changing environment – especially digital. We worked together hard to make today’s proposal relevant, proportional and effective for the consumers. I am glad we can present them together today.

This first delivery of this agenda is composed of the revision of two pieces of legislation:

One, the existing …

Local leaders welcome the proposal of a Rural Pact and Action Plan setting objectives and reinforcing the political ownership for investment on sustainable rural developments.
